Radiologic Applications in Forensic Dentistry

Course Description:
Forensic dentistry is an integral part of the forensic sciences answering all medico-legal questions involving the dentition and maxillofacial structures. Forensic dentists are involved in assisting investigative agencies in the recovery and identification of human remains, assessing the biologic profile (age, ancestry, and sex), recognition of human abuse and patterned injuries in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines of the American Board of Forensic Odontology.
This course will provide an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the forensic dentist; how radiology is utilized in forensics; and, discuss radiologic research needed to improve the discipline of forensic dentistry. Some forensic cases will be presented as examples of utilization of radiology in answering medico-legal questions.
Objectives of course:
- Discuss scope of forensic dentistry.
- Demonstrate the use of radiology in human craniofacial identification.
- Demonstrate the application of radiology in the assessment of human age.
- Discuss radiologic research needed to improve the discipline of forensic dentistry.
At the end of this course the participant . . .

Course Description:
Speakers will project a series of radiology cases from their database and will discuss the cases with the audience through polling that allows the audience to answer multiple-choice questions and suggest categories and diagnoses of the lesions.
Objectives of course:
Discuss the different findings and features of multiple pathologies and conditions and communicate their radiographic presentations.
At the end of this course the participant . . .
Will have reviewed multiple cases and learned how to compare and contrast for correct diagnoses.
